A thing which surprises me even today
is seeing every where on the path ,along the large horizontally
lying boulders, large numbers of elliptical egg shaped brittle and
easily breakable stones (like huge pebbles of sandstone ) The
rounded stones were of sizes ranging from potatoes to size of coconuts
and bricks. All around there were dozens of such loosened and
fallen round stones on our path. After an hour I lost all the feeling of wonder
which I felt in the beginning about finding these rounded stones.
Many such pebble-like stones
were found embedded in the long horizontal boulders lying by our side
.Only science of geology can explain. Tens of millions or hundreds
of million years ago–(i.e. many crores of years ago saying in our
traditional counting system )–, the hill range itself might have been not
a hilly land but a thick muddy rocky bottom of a vast
sea!

Another geological theory about
formation mountains exists. Due to extremely great heat at center of earth
(equal to heat of melting iron!) there are thousand- miles thick
rock layers or rock plates which exist in a soft hot state dozens of
miles below the ground and even under the oceans. Such hot soft rock layers
existed deep inside the earth since millions of years. In long geologic
time of hundreds of thousands of years or millions of years , due to slight
sliding of these rock plates (which are also thousands of miles long), mountain
ranges form at places where there were oceans and oceans and seas form in
mountainous and areas and rocky high land regions. Slight movement
of these rock plates of thousands of miles length and thousands of miles
thickness create the earth quakes we hear of.
At such times occasionally in
tens of millions of years the sea floor in some regions may rise slowly
and invisibly and the entire water flows out to other low regions. The
sea floor becomes dry land . In further hundreds millions years the dry land
gets lifted still higher to form the hill and mountain ranges.
In support of such theories there
are stories in newspapers and internet sites given by archeologists in many
countries. It was observed by the archeologists while examining stones of
the hill or mountain side at some places that on some high hill ranges and
mountain ranges there were fossils of fish deep inside the stone! Such facts
were mentioned by the archeologists in their project reports given in the
reputed newspapers and in science sites in internet.
The fossils are nothing but petrified
bodies of fish. The fish were caught in soft mud under sea millions of years
ago. After further millions of years the soft mud turned into stone in
the terrific heat coming from deep inside the earth and the fish skeletons too
turned into stone and remained deep inside stones and became fossils.

Now let us return to the story
of Mallur Gutta. In the long horizontally lying stone boulders there were also
layers of different colors. each layer was two or three meters thick . In
these layers also the rounded stones are found embedded. It is
possible that in some ancient time hundreds of millions of years ago the
surface of the low hill on which we were walking was part of a sea floor on
which water existed and fishes swam!
