Lord Buddha is another philosopher-prince
worshipped as incarnation of Lord Vishnu by Hindu philosophers. But he took a
different route. He was an extremely courageous Aryan prince who became a
monk at age of 29 years and renounced the pleasures of the world to study the
wide spread inequalities in multiracial society of India. He spent his
entire life fighting for equality irrespective of caste and race but with a
spirit of extreme love, truthfulness, highest morality, non-violence and
compassion. The image the divine-hearted prince created in hearts of people was
that of a sweet loving god. He travelled throughout east India and preached his
philosophy of love, compassion, equality and courage for 51 long years, until
he passed away (“ Maha Parinirvan”)at the age of 80 years became a new religion
with a great message. His message was for leading a life of extremely high
morality and non-violence and simultaneously to think every moment of helping
helpless oppressed people.
Many kings and princes and rich people
felt ashamed for neglecting their duty towards the oppressed people and joined
his religion and spread his message. Many great philosophers from all parts of
India studied his sweet philosophy and carried his message to many countries of
the world. Lord Buddha took a very scientific view of philosophy and examined
every issue in a scientific, moral and spiritual way and was ever
compassionate. The image of Lord Buddha in Indian literature through the
centuries is an image of art and poetry.
Many consider him as the greatest philosopher
born in India. His message to intellectuals of India was that they should
forsake the pleasures of life and cozy comfortable life for at least some
period of their lives, become ascetics and tour the country and see and
understand the suffering of poor and helpless people. He implemented his
philosophy in his own life .It is a historic fact that many philosophers of
India sincerely followed his advice through the centuries. We can also know
from internet how modern India’s philosophers and intellectuals felt about him.
